Flökkusinfónís / Vagus Symphony
Vagus Symphony, 25 min work by The Icelandic Love Corporation: Jóní Jónsdóttir and Eirún Sigurðardóttir, is a work that blends together the media of visual art, music and film. "The piece offers an abstract multi-disciplinary journey that activates the Vagus nerve. A system of nerves that connects all vital organs in the body, and that when in balance promotes glimmers in the soul and encourages empathy across all cultural hierarchies in an increasingly isolated, unequal and polarized world" say the artists.
The symphony is based, among others, on a psychic's experience of the history of the oldest instruments in the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. "The piece activates all the senses in the body in its travels around mysterious worlds on the borders of dreams and reality, from the primordial bang to epiphany through the seven continents of the body."
In creating the Vagus Symphony, ILC teamed up with composers Una Sveinbjarnardóttir and Ólafur Björn Ólafsson, as well as an A-list group of filmmakers, dancers, actors, and gymnasts
